Understanding The Experimental Drug

This medication is an experimental injection developed by US drugmaker Eli Lilly. The drug affects three gut hormones – glucagon-like peptide-1, GIP and glucagon. Preliminary studies suggest it could help patients lose up to a quarter of their body weight. Referred to as the “triple G”, the substance is being hailed online as the successor to Ozempic.

Medical Experts Voice Concerns

Entering “retatrutide” instantly brings up groups with numerous of members, filled with images of slimming results, positive reviews and step-by-step instructions for preparing or injecting at home.

Within moments of entering one group, a vendor shared WhatsApp details, where most transactions occur. The vendor provided an instruction manual and promised delivery within two days. When questioned whether the substance was authentic, one seller said: “You can’t be sure.” Another shared a photo of a supposed testing documentation. Not one inquired about body mass, health issues or previous experience.

But counterfeit injections are highly risky. You cannot know what’s inside or whether the environment they were produced in was clean,” she explained.

Her staff has already encountered patients injured by personal administration from unconfirmed sources. “We recognize the frustration, but buying from Telegram or WhatsApp is taking chances with your well-being,” said Wyllie. “These materials could be impure or improperly measured.”

A spokesperson from Eli Lilly stated retatrutide was in phase 3 clinical trials and had not been reviewed or approved by any regulatory agency anywhere in the world. “Therefore at this point no one can sell [it] for personal consumption,” they said, noting that any product “misleadingly claiming itself as a Lilly investigational substance not yet authorized … may expose users to possibly serious health risks”.
