A 60-day voyage through the Australian Coast was terminated in the wake of the fatal incident of an older woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but broke off from the group for a rest. The liner left without her and came back later that day after the personnel became aware the lady was not present.

An extensive search operation located her remains the subsequent day.

Authorities are examining the tragedy, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company stated that passengers and personnel on the ship were notified that the continuation of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and previous mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that passengers would be issued a total repayment, and said the company was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the passengers via private aircraft".

Officials also released an revised communication, and said they had "provided a notice to the Commander" prohibiting any further travelers from entering the liner.

The representative said that they would visit the liner in Cairns upon its coming back.

The ship initially left Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the journey at the time of the elderly woman's death. The tropical location was the first stop on the journey.

Passengers on board - who usually pay substantial amounts of dollars to participate in the voyage - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the option of hiking or underwater exploration.

The daughter of the victim said that her loved ones was "stunned and saddened that the ship left the location after an planned excursion without my parent".

In her statement, she described her mother as an "active elderly person" who was a participant of a walking club.

"From the little information we have been told, it looks that there was a breakdown of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She continued that she hoped the examination would be able to identify what "the operator should have done that might have preserved Mum's existence".

"We understand from the police that it was a extremely warm period, and mother fell ill on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"She was asked her to head down, unescorted. Then the vessel sailed away, reportedly without performing a roll call.
